I knew Bret from 1988 to 1990 after he recruited me to Ocean Quest International. I admired him from the moment I met him – loud, fun, gregarious and a total dive maverick. He was a complete ‘one off’ and it was a total pleasure to have briefly known him.

Comment on All You Need to Know About Scuba Diving in Thailand by Orca https://www.thescubanews.com/2021/06/02/all-you-need-to-know-about-scuba-diving-in-thailand/#comment-129211 Tue, 18 Jul 2023 02:11:51 +0000 https://www.thescubanews.com/?p=20565#comment-129211 Thailand’s underwater world is a diver’s paradise, and I had the privilege of exploring some incredible dive sites there. While popular spots like the Similan Islands and Koh Tao offer remarkable diving experiences, I also discovered hidden gems worth mentioning. Koh Lipe, with its vibrant coral reefs, and the Surin Islands, known for their pristine conditions and diverse marine life, were unforgettable destinations. When planning your dive trip, be sure to research reputable dive centers that prioritize safety and environmental conservation.

Not only did a man die, but a mother and her child were brutally murdered. The man’s death was tragic and hard to watch, but he was in the shark’s territory. Human’s aren’t the only species who have the right to live on this planet, even if we think we are… Shame on these people.

I have a dive booked for August 30 to Sept 2023.
Due to Guadalupe being closed I tried to request a refund due to the Trip being questionable.
To my surprise I am finding out that Nautilus is Not giving out refunds to people who have already booked Dives and will not be able to dive due to the Closure.
I find this a big shock since their was no advertisement until recently about the closure and they are stopping their bookings.

They were intended to be used as minesweepers, but all ended up being general cargo vessels. They were all named after Newfoundland communities and named Clarenville,Burin,Glenwood,Codroy,Trepassey, Exploits, Ferryland, Placentia, Bonne Bay & Twillingate – 1944 thru 1946. They were sold at auction after the war. My Grandfather owned the Glenwood and some of my relatives were ship builder which worked on the building of these ships, my father was Captain on the Glenwood

Why would Canada take 3 years to phase-out a known hazardous ( to humans) chemical (Chlorpyrifos), which is already banned in many developed countries?
Canada has “Universal” health care. All Canadians pay dearly for chemical damage done to its inhabitants.
Our government should prioritize, above all, the well being of its people.
Please take action.

Unfortunately, as a diving gear it is completely useless. It does not signal the safety stop, bottom time, decompression stops. I reported it to GARMIN, and they thought it might be defective. The new one unfortunately did not show those functions either. I think it’s a bug in the software. I do not recommend it – you can get yourself in trouble diving with this device and relying on its indications. Eventually I returned it to the seller and I am waiting for a refund. I will never trust GARMIN again

Went diving a few times there with the same people and it´s always a great light show!

Comment on Does Houston Need Another Dive Shop? by C. Cummings https://www.thescubanews.com/2016/06/30/does-houston-need-another-dive-shop/#comment-128684 Wed, 31 Mar 2021 18:32:06 +0000 http://www.thescubanews.com/?p=10741#comment-128684 Houston definitely doesn’t need Outside The Asylum Diving and Travel, Inc. (OTA). If you book a trip through OTA Travel and it doesn’t go according to plan, neither Morad Hassan nor Jeanne Cinquegrana, the owners of OTA Travel, will do anything to help save your dive vacation.

My dive buddy and I experienced this situation first-hand. We purchased a group dive trip from OTA Travel to the Galapagos Islands. The boat operator canceled the cruise after we arrived in Ecuador.

We were already in Ecuador and still expected to go diving in the Galapagos and we expected OTA Travel to help identify other diving options. OTA Travel failed to provide the level of expected service because apparently they don’t know anything about diving in the Galapagos. Their only input was to not to fly to the Galapagos even though we were at the departure gate and were on the 96-hour Covid testing clock for travel there. Instead of helping arrange alternative diving options, OTA Travel told us to return to the US and file an insurance claim. They sell trip insurance, too.

If you are looking for a reputable dive and travel shop look elsewhere because OTA Travel will leave you to fend for yourself when your dive trip doesn’t go as planned. There are plenty of other professional Dive Travel Agencies to choose from.
